World Travellers

We are the travellers....

Our Driver

Our journey to the other side of the world started at 03:00 AM [AU CST] on Friday 26th June.
After only a few hours sleep, we took turns showering and last minute packing (Daryl had to pack the Roo) we were chauffeured to the airport by our friend Jake.

Arriving in Canada

Our first flight was at 06:00 AM [AU CST] to Sydney. We discovered when checking in that we all weren’t actually sitting together from Sydney to Toronto [19 hours]. Daryl and I had seats together and Yvonne was 5 rows up and in the middle rows of the plane. We were told that the flight was completely booked out and that our best bet was to ask the flight attendants if someone was willing to switch seats with Yvonne. Yvonne did not sit with us – she managed to get a window seat :)
After 26 hours of travel, we finally arrived in Ottawa at 18:10 [CDN EST] on 26th June 2009. We travelled back in time ;)

My family was there to pick us up...

...but apparently 4 of our 5 cases were still in Toronto. Only the presents arrived.
To make a long story short – I called Air Canada a few times and yelled like the American that I am not. They assured me that our luggage would be on the next flight. We didn’t see our bags until midnight and Yvonne didn’t get hers until the next day.
So we made our first trip to Walmart. Daryl and Yvonne had a great time!

The Proposal [27th June]

Our itinerary was quite jam packed. The first few days of our trip was supposed to start with a road trip to Toronto, Canada’s Wonderland and Niagara Falls with my whole family.
After a visit to my Dad, Daryl and I returned to meet the others ENGAGED!

CN Tower

We left for Toronto just after noon and arrived at our hotel mid afternoon. We checked in, had supper and jumped back into our two vehicles to go into Toronto to go to the CN Tower. The CN Tower stands 553.33 metres.

Glass Floor
CN Tower Facts

At the bottom of the CN Tower Daryl saw something rummaging around in the bin. He tried to get a photo of a huge racoon. Although you can’t quite make it out... Daryl said it was bigger than a wombat.

Niagara Falls [28th June]

The weather while in Ontario was terrible. It rained more than it was sunny. The next day, despite the rain and cold we drove to one of the Seven Wonders of the World – NIAGARA FALLS.

Canada's Wonderland [29th June]

The next morning we went to Canada’s Wonderland. [Their website boasts more than 65 thrilling rides!! AND is home to Canada’s biggest, fastest & tallest coaster ever..... The Behemoth!!]
It was raining for the first 3 hours that we were at Wonderland ... which meant the rides didn’t run. Daryl and Cody [our nephew] went off on their own for the first few hours and filmed all of their rides!! Elysa, Tiana [our nieces], Stephan [brother inlaw] and I waited in line almost 2 hours to get on our first ride because of the weather.
In the end we had a great day riding as many rides as we could. Near the end of the day the line ups were pretty minimal and we didn’t have to wait long to sit in the first car of each ride.

The Big Apple [30th June]

The next day on the way home we stopped at “The Big Apple”.

Canada Day [1st July]

On 1st July we celebrated CANADA DAY and Cody’s 16th birthday. We had cake at my mom’s and then went into the city for the festivities.

Quebec [3rd July]

On 2nd July we went to visit my old office and that night we went shopping for a wedding dress and a wedding outfit for Daryl .... we will get to those photos later... stop rushing us!

The next day we got up early and were off to Quebec to visit my grandmother.

Friends [3rd July]

That night we met some friends for dinner and drinks ... it was great to see you guys and for you to meet Daryl. Sorry Luke/Shauna... didn’t get my camera out until after you left :(

On the Saturday we had a BBQ at my mom’s house. We did not take any photos. Daryl was pretty busy on the Barbie cooking some ROO....

Merrickville [5th July]

The Sunday prior to our big trip to Vegas ... Daryl and I drove to Merrickville for a BBQ at my friend Karen’s house.... thanks again K! And Irene, Steph, Yam for attending. It was great to see you guys again [and your hubbies] and to meet the new bubs and of course for me to show Daryl off!
After Merrickville we went for dinner at our friends Jocelyn and Rob’s house. See you in Sydney in November!!

VEGAS BABY!!!! [6th July]

On 6th July, Daryl, Yvonne, Georgia [my mom] and I flew to Vegas. This is where Daryl and I got married [some of you may have seen the ceremony live].
We checked into our hotel and Daryl and I rushed off to get our marriage license. We didn’t expect it to take too long and told our moms that we would meet them back at their hotel room in 2 hours. The queue was huge at the license bureau!! Once we had our license out of the way, we did some sight seeing before we started to get ready for the ceremony.
